Californians vs. Floridians

...........................................................................................................................................................................

Last time I lived in USA I experienced the unhealthy part of USA. Now, that I live in California, I experience the health-conscious and active lifestyle.

I must say there is quite a difference between Florida and California. Here, you have Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. Where I lived we had Walmart. I mean, Walmart is cheap and great, but you can't really get healthy choices there.

On every corner here you have a Thai restaurant or a Sushi place. Also, you have many other different choices I've never even heard about as I talked about in another blog; Ethiopian or Afghani food. In Orlando, I never saw one Thai place the time I lived there, and last year we only found one restaurant. There are MANY Wendy's, Denny's, Taco Bell, etc though..

Oh, and when Silje and I did our surfing-course in Australia, we practically ate 5 apples a day, they were the best apples I have tasted in my life. We LOVED these apples, but we could never find them anywhere but in Australia. but, HEY, look what Whole Foods got:

| My New Zealand apples, yummmyyyy |

Furthermore, people are walking everywhere, skating, rollerblading, bicycling.. When my parents came to visit me in Orlando and wanted to take a walk from their hotel, the security guard shouted at them: "HEY, where are you going?!? People don't walk in Florida"

Don't get me wrong, the year in Florida was amazing and I had possibly the best year of my life. However, the California way of life definitely suits me better :D

This is Where I Live !!!!!!!

...........................................................................................................................................................................

Today I had sort of a revelation. Wow, I am really enjoying paradise. I went for a walk to get to know the area around my apartment better. So, I walked two blocks down and this was my view:

| A beautiful park with a small beach strip |

| Someone was having fun on a jet ski, I am going to rent one soon |

I decided to turn around and walked about 15 minutes from my apartment, and I saw a sign with "Starbucks". WOW!

| I made them make my favourite hot drink as a frappuccino: Cinnamon Dolce Latte Frappuccino |

It was too hot for a warm drink, so I wanted to know what frappuccinos they had. Basically, they can make any drink cold. They hadn't made it before, so they said if I didn't like it I would get another drink. It tasted GREAT :D

Other things worth to mention about 15 minutes from my apartment: A liquor store, a Thai restaurant, a grocery store, a gas station, my bank.. Then I walked about 5 more minutes and I got to all the restaurants, nightclubs, shops, and fun little things such as a costume shop, second-hand stores, Shisha/Hookah-stores and Psychics.

| I don't know if I dare to try it... |

Think I will manage living here... :D

New Experiences: Yogurtland vs. Thai ice-cream

...........................................................................................................................................................................

It was a HOT day and we had just been to the beach for a couple of hours when we walked by Yogurtland. I have never been a fan of yogurt ice cream and I didn't really have big hopes.. However, the guys were wildly enthused about it, so I had to give it a shot. I tried Mango, Chocolate Milkshake and Double Cookies and Cream. I chose the sprinkles real-life strawberries, some brownie chunks and Oreo-cookies.

| Looks pretty delicious |

It actually was delicious as well. It didn't have the sour taste that many of these yogurt ice creams have. It tasted really good. Absolutely recommendable!

Yesterday, it was one of the guys' birthday and he got a free birthday ice cream when we went to eat at this Thai restaurant Narraya. He had a taste and wrinkled his nose before he offered us to try. Everybody tried and each said it was the worst ice cream they had tried. Thai food is maybe my favourite in the world so I couldn't believe it when I tried the ice cream. It was really weird and did not taste very good. I think this is the first Thai-thing I have tried that I didn't like. I can't remember a special Thai ice-cream in Thailand, and like one of the guys said: "Maybe it was some bad ice-cream they have put away to give out for free. Now they are probably laughing at us: 'haha, and it's his birthday TOO' "

| First free ice-cream to be left almost untouched |

I think from now on we will stick to Yogurtland next door to the Thai restaurant.

Have you tried Thai ice cream?
