Leaving Norway in a time of crisis

...........................................................................................................................................................................

Yesterday I was sitting by my computer as usual when my mom burst through the door and yells 'turn on the tv'. It felt like 9/11 all over again. Disturbing images on the tv, awful rumours on the newspapers web pages, speculations on Facebook and Twitter.. Is this really happening?

Only two days ago I was in Oslo, only 1 1/2 year ago I lived in Oslo.. My immediate reaction was if someone I knew was injured. Messages were sent, Facebook was checked.. everything seemed alright. My next reaction when I heard about the shooting on Utøya was my good friend who is a politician in another party. It might as well have been her on that political summer camp.

As I woke up this morning I was shocked to find out the number of deaths and affected people. What a horrible and cruel act. It brings me to tears thinking of how frightened the youths on Utøya must have been.

As I leave Norway, I send positive vibes to the injured, traumatized and to those who have lost near ones.  Many have said that Oslo (and Norway) will probably change forever. Hopefully the changes will be for the better; more safety, but not paranoia.

It feels a bit strange to leave Norway in a time with such tragedy, uncertainty and danger. However, there isn't much I could have done but to read the online newspapers, and I will keep myself updated throughout the coming days.

I encourage all my friends and family in Oslo to stay updated and please be careful! I love you!
