As I wrote yesterday, even though I am leaving, my deepest compassion and thoughts go out to my country, my countrymen and women. I was watching CNN at the airport and saw the memorial taking place..Unbelievable, unbearable, unthinkable, unimaginable, indescribable... unforgivable...
The time zone difference between Norway and San Diego is 9 hours. I had a plan to avoid jet lag. ( I wrote this before leaving, and I usually do this when traveling)
- Find out the time zone difference
- Calculate at what time during your flight it will be night at your destination
- Stay awake during the flight / Stay awake the night before and sleep on the flight
- will depend on your flights, stops and waiting time
My options
Option nr.1 :
Sleep well the night before, then try to stay awake the whole flight and be SUPER-tired when I arrive and it is night in San Diego (and morning in Norway) , so I can go straight to bed.
Option nr. 2:
Stay awake the night before, sleep right away when the flight leaves since it is night in San Diego then (but morning in Norway). BUT, don't get too much sleep. (!!!)
My choice
Since my mom was throwing a big party the night before I found out it was easiest to do option 2. Also, it is difficult to stay awake for 20 hours straight when you are jammed in a flight seat. In the comfort of your own home you can vary the activities to stay awake. I was lucky to have a party to go to so I had people to talk to and play cards with way into the wee hours.
Activities:
- Watch movies or tv-shows you need to catch up on
- Read magazines/ a book
- Answer your facebookmsg or e-mails you have kept for a while
- Surf the web
- Listen to music/update your iPod's playlists
- Blog :)
- Drink LOTS of water and eat a little something, but not something heavy
| My sweet cousin lent me her Gossip Girl dvd and my fav US mag |
Also, it is important to try to eat when it is time to eat in that time zone. For example, when the flight leaves I will go to sleep right away and not eat anything since it is night in San Diego (but normally I would have breakfast).
Do you have jet lag often when traveling?
